Pick of the Week

This Satirical Thriller

Director Coralie Fargeat's unflinching critique addresses the oppressive nature of female beauty as well as the perceived horrors of growing older. Hollywood star Demi Moore presents a brilliant acting turn in the role of Elisabeth, a mature celebrity forced into presenting a fitness program on TV. Edged out due to her unscrupulous employer Harvey, played by Dennis Quaid, she turns to a secretive and gruesome treatment known as "The Substance". This creates a youthful duplicate named Sue, leading to a progressively parasitic dynamic between the two. October 17th, Paramount+

The Woman in Cabin 10

However when a mysterious woman disappears from the ship one night and the entire crew claims she was never there, Laura's investigative instincts awaken. Streaming currently, the Netflix platform

This Supernatural Story

Soderbergh pushes his film-making abilities in this nifty ghostly tale shot entirely through the eyes of the spirit. When a household including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe occupies their recent residence, the camera – representing the ghost – follows them around. Chloe seems aware of the ghostly being, and it looks like protective of her. However, the motive remains? This is an entertaining concept that remains concise, including a revelation that could catch you off guard. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere

Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy

Cage embraces his cult stardom through this autobiographical spoof. Recruited by the intelligence agency to investigate the suspected cartel boss, his unique performing skills comes in handy. October 11th, prime time, the Channel 4 network

This Creepy Thriller

Derrickson's contained scarefest stands strong without requiring a follow-up. Set in 1978 Denver, multiple kidnappings has rendered the youth anxious. Once Finney is taken by the kidnapper and locked up in a basement, he anticipates the worst. However, the non-functional line mounted nearby continues to ring, with eerie communicators giving advice, while the prescient dreams from his sibling Gwen might rescue him. A solid creepfest. Saturday 11 October, nighttime, the Film4 channel

The Tammy Faye Biopic

In the battle between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for Mammon in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky biopic about the fallen televangelist and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield portrays the greedy Jim, who states at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye commence capitalizing on the people's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, bad makeup and bad faith, however Jessica Chastain manages to show the real-life figure with compassion. October 14th, late night, Film4

Black Bag

This week's additional entry from the filmmaker delivers a spy mystery as precise as the polo necks used by Michael Fassbender's British agent. He receives a mission to identify a traitor inside the organization from five suspects – among them is his own wife. Each performer are masters of deadpan cool, resulting in an engaging mind game of deception or honesty develops. The supporting cast join in the clever spy entertainment. This Friday, multiple time slots, Sky Cinema Premiere
